Many
companies have invested a whole lot of money in websites that were
made during the first few internet booms. It was important just to
ride the trendwave and doing so without even knowing why. A new way
of being out there (being kind of famous or a new hope of making
money).
Then
after a while they found out that they had spend a small/ big amount
of money on a family member or a friend of a friend and that their
site did not look as nice as they would have liked it to be.
There
may be a few reasons for this like:
Times
have changed and so do the trends of colors etc.
Customers
have seen it already too many times and got "bored".
Competitors
have been actively working on making their site look better
The
site "drowned" due to ignored Metatags (eg. the pages were
not submitted to search engines etc.) and was only viewed by a handful
of people that knew about it's existence
Their "webmaster" left
it half done
Their "webmaster" had
no graphic-design skills/no eye for making the site look well-balanced.
The
key to success is to keep it simple
The
key to success is simplicity and letting others do the work for you,
so that you can focus on what you do best. A good designer guides you
through the steps during the project and keeps you updated from time
to time where things are going at important points in a project.
Also
a good point to know is who is going to keep the site "up to date".
Like laundry, food etc. you have to change webpages too to keep it
fresh and attractive for visitors. Just think about what you would
seek in somebody elses website and you are on your way to find out
what a part of the visitors are looking for. To find out more what
the visitors of your site would like to see, you could have a feedback
form, polls etc. and build intuitively on that to get even more people
to your site.
